NIFT in Vellore

 
National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) is a group of fashion colleges in India. It was established in 1986 under the aegis of the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India and is an institution of design, management and technology for the international fashion business. NIFT was granted statutory status in 2006, empowering it to award degrees and other academic distinctions. NIFT currently has 16 campuses.Its main campus is in New Delhi, and other campuses in Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chennai, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Patna, Raebareli, Shillong, and Srinagar. A new 17th NIFT Campus at Panchkula, Haryana has been announced by the Minister of Textiles.
Courses Offered – NIFT offers four-year undergraduate, as well as two-year post-graduate, programmes in design, management, and technology.
To secure admission in Bachelor of Design (B.Des) as well as Master of Design (M.Des) programmes offered at NIFT, students need to take two written admission tests: 
1. Creative Ability Test (CAT)  
2. General Ability Test (GAT)
For other courses such as Bachelor of Fashion Technology (BFTech), Master of Fashion Technology (MFTech) and Master of Fashion Management (MFM), aspirants need to take only the GAT.

Situation Test for NIFT
Shortlisted candidates for NIFT admissions (B.Des) from the written entrance examination are required to take a situation test, which is a hands-on test to evaluate the candidate’s skills for material handling and innovative ability on a given situation with a given set of materials. No additional material will be provided/allowed.
